Finding the Best Replacement Windows

Most homeowners don’t know that Feazel does much more than just roofing.  In fact, we are also a trusted replacement window company that last year replaced over 7,000 windows and are on track to exceed that number this year.  One of the reasons that we are selected by homeowners to replace their windows is because we have put such a focus on selecting the best replacement windows to install.

“We wanted to find the very best replacement window in the entire industry and we wanted to bring that replacement window to the consumer at a price point that is very affordable – and we were able to do that very thing”, according to Ross Appeldorn, CEO of Feazel.   And the result for the homeowner is a replacement window that they can trust for quality and durability.

The features that are included in our windows are simply too numerous to list.  But some of the major benefits are:

  • tested as best in class against seal failure with less than a 0.02% failure rate versus industry standard of 10%
  • 7/8” insulated glass unit for superior thermal performance and sound deadening
  • magnetic bulb seal (magnetic seal like a freezer door) that does not allow air infiltration at the sash resulting in lower cost of ownership
  • polyurethane foam filling insulation that adds more insulation value than typical replacement windows.

And don’t be concerned that by using the best replacement window in the industry at an affordable price that there is a very limited selection of colors or styles.  In fact, our windows have 3 standard exterior colors along with 6 standard interior colors that include 3 different wood grains.  If you need a custom color on the exterior, then there are 10 to select from which include an acrylic coating.  Plus there are numerous styles of grids and cut glass patterns to meet the needs of any style of home.

Feazel is a trusted residential home services company in Ohio and have built our reputation by offering superior roofing, windows, siding, gutters, chimneys, masonry, skylights, insulation and more.  Our core values of service, integrity, quality, continued improvement, employee appreciation, community support, and environmental conservation are on display with every job we do.  Call or visit us online to learn more.

Gutters – Information You Need to Know

If your gutters are not functioning properly, then you are at risk for potentially costly damage to your roof and/or foundation.  The cost of maintaining, repairing or replacing faulty gutters is one of the smaller costs of home ownership that pays off big by avoiding more costly repairs.  So here is a primer on important information you need to know about gutters.

First, how do you know whether you need to replace your gutters?  The best way to make sure gutters last a long time is to keep them cleaned out.  But time will eventually take its toll even on well-maintained gutters.

One of the most common signs your gutters need replacement is if they are either overflowing or water is gushing out too fast when it is raining even if they are not hampered with debris.  This means that either they are not sized properly to handle the amount of water they are taking in or they are damaged.  Either way it’s important to look at replacement so that this issue does not cause damage to your roof or foundation over time.

Another tell-tale sign of the need for replacement are gutters that are pulling away from the home or sagging.  Repairing gutters with this issue is not usually cost efficient versus simply replacing them and you can choose a gutter system which will not repeat the same problem.

Once you have decided that it’s time to replace your gutters, then some basics about gutter materials, styles and costs are in order.  Most residential gutters are made of aluminum as it is lightweight yet strong.  However, there are generally three gauges of aluminum gutter: builder grade, high-end residential and industrial.  Make sure you know the gauge that is being specified for your project and that it meets the needs of your home.

Gutter size is important to make sure that the gutter being specified can handle the amount of water drainage from the area, pitch and other characteristics of your roof.  Depending on these factors you will likely need either a 5 or 6 inch gutter, but an experienced professional can help you decide which is best.

Finally, gutter cost can vary greatly due to all the different factors cited and add-ons (such as debris guards) that are available.  However, they are priced by the linear foot which can help you estimate the cost when you know the amount of linear feet you are replacing.  The range of cost can be from $3 - $40 per linear foot for the low-end to the very high-end products.

Feazel CEO Provides Helpful Tips to Homeowners

In recent interviews Feazel CEO Ross Appeldorn provided some helpful tips to homeowners regarding residential home services and selecting qualified service providers for their homes in Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus and Central Ohio.  Speaking with programs such as Cleveland Now and ONA Columbus, he discussed several important topics of interest to homeowners.

First up were tips for homeowners that would like to understand the best self-inspection methods to determine if their roof may be in need of any repairs or if other areas of exterior home maintenance may be required.  The interviewer pointed out that the need for a roof repair might not always be obvious to the homeowner if the home is not experiencing a leak.  Mr. Appeldorn agreed and stated that most roof failures are the result of inadequate roof ventilation and that, if possible, the homeowner should look inside the attic to make sure there is some daylight visible which would indicate that ventilation is occurring in the attic.

As for other maintenance areas, he mentioned the importance of clean and clear gutters, downspouts and undergrounds as an important item to inspect.  And, he also noted that inspecting brick masonry for issues is important too.  Most homeowners think that a good masonry exterior does not need maintenance but, in fact, even masonry does require periodic sealing to keep moisture from penetrating.

Finally, Mr. Appeldorn provided the following advice for selecting a qualified contractor for any residential home services project: 1) start by making sure the contractor is rated well by the Better Business Bureau including reviews by past customers; 2) verify that they are certified by the manufacturer of the products they will use on your home and; 3) confirm they are fully licensed

The Necessity of Replacing Home Siding

Often times the last thing that comes to mind for a homeowner when they are thinking about improvements to their home is the siding.  But since it is one of the top five ways to improve the curb appeal of your home, perhaps siding should get more consideration when a homeowner is deciding which improvement project makes the most sense.  For example, the remodeling of certain interior spaces in the home may be appealing to a homeowner, but only a few interior remodeling projects actually add any value to a home; siding always adds value as well as curb appeal.

So, how do you know when siding replacement is needed?  Sometimes it is just that the current siding is very outdated and makes your home look old and unappealing.  But many times the siding will also show telltale signs of the need for replacement.

Frequent signs of the need for new siding include siding that is warped, rotted, cracked or loose on the outside or the appearance of peeling paint or loose wallpaper inside the house.  Exterior issues with siding such as those just mentioned are usually obvious, but failing or faulty siding can let moisture into the house which can cause the interior problems.  And moisture getting beyond the siding can also cause mold which is a potentially larger and costlier problem.

If you believe your home may be in need of new siding we encourage you to contact us or visit our website to learn more about Feazel’s American-made siding options. Providing many versions of cedar, vinyl, and fiber cement siding, you are sure to find the best solution for your home.
